The Challenge Experience
The Challenge experience is worth more than $250K to teams who complete all 3 phases:
4.0 School’s Launch Program
June 9, 2014 - August 1, 2014
During Launch, you will join a small group of other entrepreneurs focused on launching a new product, service, or school model. The Launch program will push you to test and iterate your envisioned school model until it is really meeting the needs of your students.
The Launch program includes:
Intensive and individualized coaching from entrepreneurs-in-residence and 4.0 staff;
The opportunity to test your ideas in real classrooms and schools;
Access to 4.0 and NSNO’s vast network of local educators;
Up to $5K to support your testing and prototyping needs.
Weeks one through four (June 9th - July 4th) will be conducted remotely, while weeks five through eight (July 7th - August 1st) will be held in NOLA. Participants receive a housing stipend and workspace in 4.0’s New Orleans lab for the in-person portion of Launch. The Launch experience is worth up to $50K.
Launch concludes with a Pitch Night, after which NSNO and 4.0 will determine which participants will move on to Phase 2. To learn more about the Launch experience, check out 4pt0.org/launch.
Future of School Design Fellowship
August 1, 2014 - December 1, 2014
The Fellowship provides participants with the funding and support they need to continue to test and refine their school model. The fellowship provides a $20K stipend and $10K prototyping budget per team. The fellowship experience is worth $50K per team.
Participants will have the freedom to take whichever next steps are necessary for developing their school model. Activities may include:
offering “pop-up” courses to test key school components
facilitating focus groups with parents and students
embedding in an innovative school or organization
4.0, NSNO, and Khan Academy will provide participants with access to coaches, experts, and teachers who can share useful insight and lessons learned in launching schools that put individual students’ needs at the center of everything.
At the end of the Fellowship, teams will pitch their school model idea to NSNO for the opportunity to receive continued incubation support throughout the charter application and school launch processes.
Future of School Incubation Fellowship
January 2015-Fall 2016
NSNO and 4.0 will select at least one participant or team for incubation based on the quality of their school model and evidence of their ability to lead others and achieve results. NSNO will work with the participant(s) to prepare a strong charter application and will provide startup resources, leadership coaching, access to testing space, financial management training, and board member recruitment support. The Incubation Fellowhsip is worth up to $150K per team.
The goal of the incubation period is to prepare the participant(s) to open a new school in New Orleans Fall 2016.
